CATiSE Program

CubeCats Applied Training in Space Exploration

About

CATiSE is a peer-led onboarding program designed to help new CubeCats members (particularly first-year students) develop their technical, leadership, and systems engineering skills. These skills are not only useful for working on our organization's main CubeSat Missions, but are also useful for future co-ops and post-graduation employment. The program begins by allowing new members to select a mission, typically a High Altitude Balloon (HAB) mission, but potentially also a different aerospace vehicle. Members are divided into subsystem teams, each of which is responsible for a different aspect of the mission. Each subsystem team selects a leader, who coordinates with the other team leads to ensure mission success. Over the course of an academic year, participants formulate a mission concept of operation, design and integrate a vehicle for this mission, and perform the mission.

Current Missions

The CATiSE project for the 2022-2023 academic year is Project Floppa. The mission for the coming 2023-2024 academic year is coming soon.

Past Missions

CATiSE typically does one or two missions each academic year. As of 2021, CATiSE members have flown 5 HAB missions with varying mission objectives, designed a sixth HAB mission, and developed a sample collection rover.
